What is
CRUX FOR CLIMBERS?

Crux for Climbers
CRUX FOR CLIMBERS is both a site and an app and is aimed at individual climbers of all levels.
It will enable you to:
- Record and view your climbing sessions and related analytics
- View health metrics to help reduce injury risk and enable improvement
- Plan future sessions (or receive plans if you have a coach)
Record your climbs
Recording your climbing sessions includes the following items:
- Climb types – choose multiple types from over 36 options, such as indoor bouldering – onsight and outdoor traditional – lead headpoint
- Record the grade difficulty of your climbs and choose from 10 different grade systems (eg French Sport, British Trad, Font etc)
- Your number of attempts, and how many of those you completed
- Your rate of exertion
- Additional info such as notes and generic exercise duration
Hence, Crux for Climbers will build a central record of all your climbing history and will provide you with useful core analytics.
Health metrics
Crux for Climbers also aims to help you improve your climbing and reduce your injury risk. This is achieved through calculating ‘Load’ along with several related health metrics. If you’re into the science bit, check out the health metrics section below.
Planning climb sessions
As well as showing your completed climbing sessions, you (or your coach) can also add ‘planned’ future climbing sessions. Crux for Climbers will show you how these could potentially affect your health metrics in order for you to optimise your plans.
What is
CRUX FOR COACHES?
Crux for Coaches
This app/site is for coaches and will enable you to:
- Access Crux for Climbers data (with consent) for all of your climbing students.
- View this data with various useful analytics and dashboards to get a comprehensive view of your students’ climbing history and plan
- Allow you to build plans for your climbers and see the effect this could have on their health metrics – these planned sessions can then be pushed to your climbers for them to accept or decline in their version of Crux for Climbers
What are the health metrics?
Crux for Climbers is a great tool for just keeping a record of your climbing history and seeing useful stats regarding your climbing types, grades etc. In addition, Crux also calculates some health metrics to help you bake in your improvements whilst avoiding unnecessary injury risk. The 4 metrics calculated and displayed in Crux are:
- Internal and external load (“Load”)
- Acute chronic workload ratio (“ACWR”)
- Monotony
- Strain
What is load?
Monitoring of load is extremely useful to understanding whether you are over/under training and hence increasing your exposure to injury risk. Load is the measurement of the stimulus applied to a human biological system and can be applied to the individual over varying time periods, frequencies and intensities.
The two components of load are:
- External load – physical work performed
- Internal load – phsiological or perceptual response
CLIMBERS!
Is there a cost?
Crux for Climbers will always be a free app.
It will most likely be ad-supported and there could be a future ‘premium’ level to have access to a greater range of analytics, but this will not affect the free health metrics or core analytics.
